We collect, use and share your personal data to fulfill our contractual obligations and to improve and support your experience on our website and/or platform. It therefore does not apply to other websites (such as those of sponsors or advertisers) from which our websites and/or platform can be accessed via links. On third-party websites, the data protection provisions of the relevant third-party providers always apply. Our privacy policy therefore does not apply to activities carried out by the operators of linked websites, which may involve the collection of personal data of the user of our website and/or platform. Collection, processing and use of personal data

Collected information

Your data is collected when you

  • Visit our website and/or platform without being a member
  • Apply as a mentee and register if applicable
  • Apply as a mentor and register if applicable
  • Apply for a job at Mentor Lane

Information about our cookies and other tracking programs can be found at the end of this policy.

Voluntarily submitted information

Mentor Lane may collect information that you voluntarily provide to us, such as the email address you provide when you register. You may also provide information to Mentor Lane in other contexts, including, but not limited to, mentor/mentee applications, job applications and blog comments. In the event that you request a service on our website and/or platform, we may store additional personal information such as your address, phone number, payment and billing information in order to complete the request.

However, your payment information, such as your credit card number, which is required to complete a request on our website and/or platform, remains with our payment providers (Stripe, Chargebee, Gocardless, Cashpresso or PayPal, depending on the payment method). We only share your data to the extent necessary for the provision of our services. For additional information on the data protection of our payment providers, please contact the respective third-party provider.

Log files

Mentor Lane automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser transmits to us. These are:

  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Referrer URL
  • Host name of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request
  • IP address

Data processing is based on our legitimate interest in the secure operation of the website and platform within the meaning of Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

Conclusion of membership and booking of add-ons, membership as a mentor

All members and mentors have the same access to the platform. With regard to the website and platform, the data of these users is therefore subject to the given basic conditions.

However, your payment information, such as your credit card number, which is required to complete a request on our website and/or platform, remains with our payment providers (Stripe, Chargebee, GoCardless, Cashpresso or PayPal, depending on the payment method). We only share your data to the extent necessary for the provision of our services. For additional information on the data protection practices of our payment providers, please contact the respective third-party provider.

Should it be necessary for the individual mentor search to pass on personal data from the mentee’s application and/or interview, or from a mentor’s application, Mentor Lane reserves the right to pass information to potential mentors or mentees as part of providing services. By taking out a membership and registering as a mentor, you expressly consent to this data transfer.

Communication between members

Mentor Lane stores the communication between its members when this takes place via our website and/or platform. Mentor Lane can view the conversations of its members at any time, even after a member's profile has been deleted from the platform (see Deletion of data).

Deletion of data

Your data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the optimal functionality of the website and/or platform or for the provision of a service via our website and/or platform, or as soon as we no longer have a legitimate interest in storing your data. Normally, your data will be deleted within seven days of this point in time, unless it is still required to fulfill contractual or statutory retention periods. Further storage is possible, but in this case the user's IP address will be deleted or anonymized so that it is no longer possible to assign the user and IP address.

As a user of the platform, you can cancel the storage of the personal data you have provided on the platform by deleting your profile on the platform. This step also deletes all listings on the platform for mentors. However, details of actions involving other members, such as transactions or conversations, will remain. The name of the deleted member will no longer be visible to other members, but will be anonymized as “removed user.” However, titles of deleted mentor listings will still be visible in the subject line of a conversation if this conversation originated from a listing.

This process — the deletion of your data on the platform — does not include the deletion of your data in our internal systems (e.g. in our newsletter list). If you wish to have all your data irrevocably deleted by us, please contact [email protected].

For the duration of your contract with Mentor Lane, your data will be stored for the duration of your contract. If you terminate your contract at the end of the contract term by deleting your profile on the platform, your data will be deleted from our website and/or platform, unless there is a legal obligation to retain it. If data is subject to a retention obligation, it will only be blocked until the retention period expires. If you merely pause your membership — you no longer pay any contributions but do not explicitly cancel — your inactive profile will be retained, and we will merely deactivate it. In this case, for example, your name will remain visible in conversations you have had with other users of the platform. If you wish to permanently terminate or delete your data on the platform from this point onwards, please contact [email protected]. This does not necessarily mean that your data will also be deleted from our internal systems unless you explicitly request this.

For mentor profiles, however, your profile will be deactivated by us if you leave messages from mentees unanswered for more than 30 days. If you do not make an effort to reactivate your profile within one year of deactivation, we will delete your profile on the platform. To also have your data deleted from our internal systems, please contact us at [email protected].
