Frequently Asked Questions – Mentor
What happens after I register as a mentor? What tasks do I have to do?
By officially registering as a mentor, you will be added to our mentor pool. Starting from now, you are available to match with our mentees. After a successful mediation and the first meeting, you can start working with your mentee (if they agree as well). This is followed by the development of a strategy for your mentee’s career goal achievement. To achieve this goal, we recommend arranging personal meetings with each other. The Mentor and mentee meet at least once a month to discuss the situation. However, it is up to you and your mentee how often you arrange to meet. In most cases, our mentoring pairs meet about 2 times a month.
Are there specific guidelines on how I should support my mentee?
There are no concrete guidelines. Mentor Lane merely provides assistance and acts as a guide for a common direction. Individual details are discussed between you and your mentee and, with agreement, can be changed at any time. However, if you have any open questions, problems or uncertainties, you are not on your own. Our staff is always available and will be happy to assist you on your journey. Just contact us – whether in person, by phone or email.
How do I benefit from mentoring?
Mentoring is not a one-way street. Based on our experience, our mentors benefit from new perspectives and incentives from their dynamic mentees. Due to the long industry knowledge and life experience, the view for fresh ideas is often lost – our mentees help you to sharpen your view on the essentials again. In addition, Mentor Lane offers its members the opportunity to make new contacts far away from their own industry. The focus here is on expanding and cultivating the company’s own network through specially organized Mentor Lane events.
Can I also communicate with my mentee online?
We place great emphasis on the personal exchange between our mentors and mentees. However, of course, this is not always possible. Of course, you are completely free to choose your own communication tools.
Unfortunately, I no longer have time for my mentee, but our 6-month mentoring program is still ongoing. What’s next?
In general, Mentor Lane takes care to prevent such cases from the beginning. Even at the selection stage, great importance is attached to the time resources. However, should such a case arise, our team will intervene. We will start looking for a new mentor for your mentee. The program must and will continue as soon as possible without your further support.
Can I support more than one mentee?
Yes. However, you should make sure that you can provide enough time. Neglecting a mentee or giving preference to another mentee will not be accepted by us. But you can run as many matching processes and programs as you like.
Unfortunately, I cannot provide satisfactory support to my mentee. How do we proceed?
First, discuss your concerns with your mentee. If your mentee has also imagined a different kind of mentoring and expresses the desire for a new mentor, contact us. A change of mentor is possible with the agreement of both parties. Both our mentor and mentee undergo our matching process again.
